The glues commonly used for PVC floors on the market are classified into three types that are applied in different processes.

1. Super glue: This a solvent-based glue containing toluene. It must be applied in ventilation environment and a glue drying process is needed to produce stickiness after volatilization.
2. Water-based pressure sensitive adhesive: This is an environment-friendly water-based glue and does not contain toluene. The stickiness is produced when applying pressure and rework is carried out easily. However, immersing in water for a long period of time may damage the stickiness.
3. Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesive: This is an environment-friendly hot melt glue and does not contain toluene. It is waterproof and the stickiness is produced when applying pressure. This is also suitable for DIY construction.

Selecting hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive and its effect on PVC floor adhesives

The PVC floor is comprised of PVC plastics, calcium carbonate, plasticizer and other additives. Environment-friendly plasticizer is added to improve the flexibility of PVC floor tiles and make them softer. However, plasticizer has a physical phenomenon of leakage and moves gradually from the inside to the surface as time goes on. As a result, the glue of the hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive will be solved and its cohesive will be damaged more seriously with time of storage, leading to spilling of the adhesive under heavy pressure and movement of some adhesive when the release paper is torn off.
Once the stickiness of the hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive becomes worse, the angle may lift when it is stuck on. Hence, selecting the correct adhesive is one of the key elements for PVC floors.
