The origin of this commemorative day dates back to October 22, 2019, during the 16th Leadership Meeting of the Asian Adhesives Association held in Seoul, South Korea. At that meeting, Japanese industry leaders proposed designating September 29 as International Adhesives Day.
The choice of “9/29” for the celebration is highly symbolic: in Japanese, the pronunciation of “929” closely resembles the word for “adhesion,” reflecting the core function and value of adhesives.
Further advancing this initiative, on March 27, 2020, the China Adhesives & Tape Industry Association held the 8th Sixth Council Meeting via correspondence in Beijing. All representatives unanimously approved the establishment of September 29 as “International Adhesives & Sealant Day” .
September 29th = Sep. Twenty Ninth
The day’s symbolism is further reflected in the attraction between a magnet’s north and south poles (S to N), analogous to how adhesives bond materials together inseparably.
Today, September 29 has become a symbolic day for the adhesives industry, reminding us to appreciate this seemingly ordinary yet ubiquitous material and to continue driving innovation and sustainable applications in the field.
